Putterman Lab

Chaim Putterman
Principal Investigator: Chaim Putterman, MD

The Putterman Lab is a leader in the field of immunology and autoimmunity, specifically in its study of systemic lupus erythematosus. Its focus is on the identification and characterization of novel mechanisms, biomarkers and treatment approaches to immune-mediated nephritis, neuropsychiatric lupus, and systemic lupus erythematosus. Of the most notable strengths of the laboratory is its unique position as a cutting-edge basic science hub that is closely-knit with its surrounding large, diverse patient population. This allows for smooth bench-to-bedside, as well as bedside-to-bench transitions that greatly enhance the clinical relevance of the studies, in addition to a better understanding of the pertinent clinical questions that require exploration. It has received funding from the National Institute of Health, Alliance for Lupus Research, Lupus Research Institute, Arthritis Foundation, Boehringer Ingelheim, and Biogen Idec.
