Work-study Information for Students
We're excited to announce the introduction of the Federal Work-Study Program to our students, offering a valuable opportunity to gain work experience while earning to support their education.
What is the Federal Work-Study Program?
According to the Federal Student Aid (FSA) website, "The Federal Work-Study Program provides part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses.
Work-Study Eligibility
- Student must demonstrate financial need to be eligible.
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the priority filing deadline.
- Students who haven't been awarded but have financial need can discuss eligibility with a financial aid counselor.
- Must reapply every academic period for all financial aid programs, including Work Study, via the FAFSA. studentaid.gov
Work Schedule
- Students can work up to 20 hours per week.
- The minimum wage is set at $15.00/hr.
Taxes and Work-Study Earnings
Federal Work Study wages are reportable income earnings. The student is issued a W-2 form detailing the wages earned for the appropriate tax year. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure they file the appropriate Federal and State tax forms to report all income earned if required by tax laws. However, these earnings won't affect your FAFSA eligibility.
