Nosing About for Treatment  A study in the December issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery shows that rhinoplasty (commonly referred to as nose jobs) may offer a health benefit. Dr. Howard Stupak and his team found that rhinoplasty done solely for breathing problems provided better treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) than standard treatments for the condition, such as throat or facial surgery or use of a mask known as a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) worn at night. OSA affects about one in five American adults, and the team’s findings could influence how physicians treat the condition. Dr. Stupak is assistant professor of otorhinolaryngology. He also is an Einstein alumnus, in the class of 1999.
