Alumni Gift Provides Free Memberships to AMSA for Einstein Students

Thanks to  the generous support of the Humanologi Foundation, founded by Einstein alumnus Dr. Steven M. Reich ’86 and his wife, Jodi, the College of Medicine has formed an institutional  partnership with the American Medical Student Association (AMSA), which provides full AMSA membership at no charge to all Einstein medical students.

Membership in AMSA affords students a variety of great opportunities. <a title=

“The Humanologi Foundation’s mission is to provide tools and resources to help refocus attention on the roles of empathy, humanism, and compassion in healthcare,” said Dr. Reich. “By supporting programs in self-awareness training, we seek to combat the ever-increasing career trend among physicians of disengagement and burnout.”

Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Steve Reich, class of '86, and his wife Jodi, Einstein students can become members of AMSA for free.

The Humanologi Foundation will also sponsor scholarships for medical students to travel and participate in life changing programs that demonstrate the lasting benefit and joy of empathetic training and humanistic communication with patients.  Some of these highlighted programs include: Save a Child's Heart a life saving program that brings critical pediatric cardiac surgery to locations where this type of surgery does not exist, and to SHALVA, a program that assures care and inclusion of individuals with disabilities.

AMSA is a student-led, national association; throughout its 70-year history, its central aim has focused on cultivating, inspiring, and informing medical students by offering leadership opportunities and community, guidance for the residency application process, and discounts ranging from test prep to travel—as well as a place in AMSA’s long history of advocacy for both patients and future physicians.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our students, and it’s exciting that an alumnus of ours is making AMSA’s membership and its associated benefits available to all Einstein students who choose to opt in,” said Dr. Allison Ludwig, associate dean for student affairs at Einstein. Membership includes AMSA’s print magazine, The New Physician.

Dr. Ludwig added, “All that an Einstein medical student needs to do is complete a brief form to start receiving the benefits of their free AMSA membership.”

Editor’s Note: Students can access the membership form here or use the “AMSA Opt-in” navigation under “Potpourri” on Inside Einstein.
