Professional Interests

Hannah Knafo, PhD, is a Clinical Psychologist at the Rose F. Kennedy Children’s Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center (RFK-CERC) at Montefiore Medical Center and an Instructor at Einstein College of Medicine. She was trained at The New School for Social Research and completed her Postdoctoral Internship at RFK-CERC. At The New School for Social Research, Dr. Knafo worked on research focused on the role of parent-child attachment in the intergenerational transmission of body representations at the Center for Attachment Research. During her training, Dr. Knafo also worked on research related to the Group Attachment Based Intervention (GABI) developed by Dr. Anne Murphy (at Montefiore Medical Center) in collaboration with Drs. Miriam and Howard Steele (at The New School). Dr. Knafo’s clinical work centers around parent-child relationships as well: she conducts individual therapy, dyadic therapy, and family therapy with children and families at RFK-CERC. Her primary clinical focus is in the area of parental mental health and the intergenerational transmission of childhood maltreatment. Dr. Knafo uses principles from attachment theory and psychodynamic therapies in individual psychotherapy with parents who have experienced traumatic and adverse childhood experiences.
