Professional Interests

Dr. Sharon Rikin, MD, MS is the Director of Ambulatory Quality Improvement for the Department of Medicine at Montefiore, an Assistant Professor of the Department of Medicine's Division of General Internal Medicine, and a primary care physician at the Comprehensive Family Care Center.

Dr. Rikin's work focuses on implementing evidence-based medicine into practice for the Department of Medicine, developing a quality improvement curriculum for residents and fellows, and collaborating with physicians to create a culture focused on high quality care. Current initiatives include:

  • Medical Director for the Montefiore eConsult program, an initiative to improve access for primary care patients to specialty expertise.
  • Site Leader for the CDC Opioid QI Collaborative, a program to improve care for patients with chronic pain receiving opioid therapy through the implementation of recommendations from CDC Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain  in the primary care setting.

Dr. Rikin graduated from Emory University with a degree in Anthropology and completed medical school and then residency training in Internal Medicine/Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Following residency, she completed General Internal Medicine fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center and received a Master of Science in Epidemiology at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.
