Professional Interests

Dr. Herron is Director of Bioethics Education at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and an Associate of the Montefiore Einstein Center for Bioethics. He also serves as Director of Operations and Educational Programming for Einstein's Ruth L. Gottesman Clinical Skills Center. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family & Social Medicine and holds a secondary appointment with the Department of Epidemiology & Population Health. Dr. Herron completed his Doctor of Bioethics at Loyola University Chicago and his Master of Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He has a Bachelor of Science in Special Education from West Chester University of Pennsylvania. 

In addition to serving as Course Director for Bioethics I and Bioethics II, he co-facilitates clinical ethics case conferences in the Pediatrics and Medicine Clerkships and is a faculty member with the Einstein-Cardozo Masters of Bioethics program. He is a member of the Montefiore Bioethics Committee and collaborates with Montefiore's Clinical Ethics Consultation. Dr. Herron also teaches in the Introductory Basic Science course, Introduction to Clinical Medicine program, and the Molecular & Cellular Foundations of Medicine course.

Dr. Herron was appointed Chair of Einstein's LGBTQIA Health Curriculum Working Group in 2018. He also is a member of the Course Directors Subcommittee; Faculty Development Task Force; and Einstein's Middle States Accreditation Committee. Dr. Herron has previously served as a member of the Medical Education Council's Executive Committee; Clinical Prevention & Population Health Task Force; Einstein's Foundational Sciences Design Team of the Curriculum Design Executive Committee; Learning Management System Task Force; LCME Planning Committee and the Anatomy Relocation Task Force.

In 2015, Dr. Herron was awarded the Vivien T. Thomas Award by Einstein's Gold Humanism in Medicine Honor Society and was selected as a faculty inductee by the student members. Dr. Herron was inducted into the Leo M. Davidoff Society in 2017 and selected by the graduating class of 2017 to receive the Samuel M. Rosen Award for Outstanding Teaching. Dr. Herron is an active member of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH) and the Academy for Professionalism in Health Care (APHC). He has served on the APHC Board of Directors since 2017 and as APHC's Social Media Chair since 2014.

Scholarly interests include: Medical Education; Bioethics; Clinical Ethics; Professional Identity Formation; Inter-professionalism education; Social Media and Educational Technologies; Standardized Patient Education; Cultural Competency; Sexuality Issues; Violence Prevention; LGBTQ Health; Special Education; Disability Rights and Education; Integrative Medicine; Complementary & Alternative Medicine; Clinical Prevention and Population Health; Faculty Development; Patient Advocacy; and Service Learning.
