Clinical Research

Our hospitalists are dedicated to improving the care offered to hospitalized patients through clinical research. As members of the Department of Medicine, our hospitalists have published clinical, educational, and health-services research in peer-reviewed journals.

Highlights of the Montefiore-Einstein Hospitalist Program include:

  • July 2011- The Division of Hospital Medicine within the Department of Medicine was established with William Southern, MD, MS as its founding Chief.
  • Research abstract (William Southern, Shadi Nahvi, MD, Julia Arnsten, MD) won 1st prize at the Society for Hospital Medicine National Meeting (2010).
  • Matthew Shaines, MD, became Director of Medical Consult Service at Moses Division (2010).
  • Manuela Calvo, MD, became Sub-Internship site Director at Moses Division in 2009.
  • Jason Korcak, MD, MPH, became Assistant Firm Leader in the Medicine Residency Training Program (2009).
  • Cristina Rivera, MD, became Clerkship Site Director at Weiler Division in 2009.
  • Invited presentation at the Society for Hospital Medicine National Meeting (2008).
  • Length-of-stay and outcomes associated with our Teaching Hospitalist model were published in the Archives of Internal Medicine (2007).
  • Data was presented indicating superior resident and student teaching evaluations of Teaching Hospitalist attendings at the Society for General Internal Medicine National Meeting (2005).
  • Jason Adelman, MD, MS named Montefiore’s Patient Safety Officer (2003)
  • The Teaching Hospitalist model, in which academically oriented hospitalists spend the majority of their time as ward teaching attendings, was established in 2002.
  • The Hospitalist program was established at Moses in 2000.
