Dr. Pessin directs the Einstein-Mount Sinai Diabetes Research Center, one of only sixteen NIH-funded diabetes centers of its kind in the country. He guides the research of more than 90 scientists investigating type 1 (formerly juvenile) and type 2 (formerly adult-onset) diabetes. The center also includes training programs and community-based activities in the Bronx. Dr. Zonszein is an experienced clinician and researcher who focuses on preventing and treating types 1 and 2 diabetes. He has participated in landmark NIH studies, including the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial and the Diabetes Prevention Program. He has a special interest in understanding cardiovascular disease in people with diabetes and serves as the principal investigator of an ongoing NIH-sponsored study to find the best way to manage coronary artery disease in patients with type 2 diabetes.  read more...
