Dr. Zonszein is an experienced clinician and researcher who focuses on preventing and treating types 1 and 2 diabetes. He has participated in landmark NIH studies, including the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial and the Diabetes Prevention Program. He has a special interest in understanding cardiovascular disease in people with diabetes and serves as the principal investigator of an ongoing NIH-sponsored study to find the best way to manage coronary artery disease in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Dr. Zonszein also collaborates on several programs to improve medical care in underserved and ethnically diverse minority populations. A consultant for the National Hispanic Medical Association and a faculty member in the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Hispanic Center of Excellence, Dr. Zonszein is a co-principal investigator and Scientific Director of the NIH-supported Bronx Center to Reduce and Eliminate Ethnic and Racial Health Disparities (BronxCREED).
